MicroRider

Self-Contained Turbulence Instrument Package

The MicroRider is a small instrument package for turbulence microstructure measurements, designed to integrate with a variety of marine instrument platforms, such as Gliders, AUVs, moorings, CTD rosettes, profiling floats and the WireWalker.

The MicroRider is successfully integrated into the following platforms:

Features:

  • Internal Data Recording
  • In-situ Data Processing (ISDP)
  • 1000 m pressure rating (6000 m option available)
  • Up to four turbulence sensors
    • 2x SPM-6000 microstructure turbulence shear probes
    • 2x FP07-1000 microstructure fast thermistors
  • Additional Sensors Include:
    • 1x high resolution pressure sensor
    • 2x vibration sensors
    • 1x tilt sensor
  • Optional Sensors Include:
    • Electro Magnetic Current Sensor (EM)

Applications

Turbulence measurements – including velocity shear and dissipation of TKE, from remote, autonomous vehicles improves the spatial and temporal resolution of ocean mixing dynamics. With different form-factor and configuration designs available, the MicroRider product line is a standard offering from leading glider manufacturers, and easily integrates onto a variety of stationary and moving platforms.
